Gov. Quinn appoints fabulous Chief of Staff;
Sen. Brady responds with attacks and ridicule
Last week, Governor Quinn's former Chief of Staff resigned. Pat appointed Michelle Saddler to replace him.
Michelle is a social justice champion and a financial expert, who has spent her entire working life advocating for the downtrodden and sticking up for the little guy, just as Pat Quinn has done. Michelle's career has included serving as Secretary of the Department of Human Services, was Vice President of International Adoptions for Lifelink Corporation and she served as Director of Investments when Pat Quinn was State Treasurer.
Michelle has a Bachelor's Degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University and a Masters Degree in management from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She is an expert on fiscal matters, which is just what Illinois needs at a time like this.
Michelle might be ... she could be ... the finest, most highly competent Chief of Staff that any governor has ever had, any time, any place.
When reading about the change in Chief of Staff in an article in one of Chicago's daily newspapers, I read about the reaction by Senator Bill Brady to Michelle's upcoming appointment. Brady is one of Pat Quinn's two major party opponents in the November election for Governor. The newspaper article said essentially the following, "Bill Brady was quick to pounce. Here's what Bill Brady had to say."
That's when I stopped reading the article, because that type of attack reaction by Brady is so typical of everything that's wrong with the Republican Party. Any time anybody from another party does anything, good or bad, the Republican Party always attacks, attacks, smears, ridicules, mocks, condemns, insults and criticizes. The Republicans still think that the only way to get ahead, politically, is through the Politics of Personal Destruction, rather than by offering a better set of policy proposals.
I asked Michelle, at her introductory news conference with Pat last week, how she feels about the way the Republican candidate for Governor has attacked her appointment, despite her outstanding background and track record. Michelle responded, "You can't please everybody. You just do the right thing, do the best you can, and if you get attacked, anyway, there's nothing that I can do about it."
Even my friend, Rich Whitney, who is Pat Quinn's other major party opponent in the November election for Governor, told Craig Dellimore on his At Issue show on WBBM Newsradio 78, earlier this month, that Pat Quinn is a "pretty good guy," even though Rich has a different set of plans for Illinois from Pat. It's people like Rich Whitney that make me proud to be a member of the Green Party. Click here to listen to the entire August 1, 2010, edition of At Issue with guest Rich Whitney. Pat's appointment of Michelle was a good selection. It was, in fact, a great selection. When somebody from another political party does something right, that person should be applauded, as I am doing, and not attacked and ridiculed the way the Republican Party always does.
Congratulations, Pat. You made a fabulous choice. I still will be voting for Rich Whitney for Governor because, of the three major party candidates for Governor, I like Rich the most, but that doesn't change the fact that you're a good guy and Michelle is a spectacular choice for Chief of Staff.
As for Bill Brady, the last thing Illinois needs is somebody whose political philosophy is attack, attack, destroy, attack and destroy.

Help support my work by purchasing a Rob Sherman News Mini-Crank Flashlight for $20. It never needs batteries. You just wind it up a few times and it works. Remember, you're not paying twenty bucks just for a flashlight. You are helping me to shine a light on and stop unconstitutional government policies and other catastrophically bad ideas by government and the private sector.
That's the value of what you are purchasing, and that's the difference between Rob Sherman Advocacy and most of the other groups. They talk about the problems of state/church separation. I do something about it and get the violations of your constitutional rights stopped. Besides, there aren't that many of the Rob Sherman News Mini-Crank Flashlights, so you might be able to make a lot of money selling this rare collector's item in a few years.
