Rich Whitney of Green Party has become
the most viable Illinois Governor candidate

Share |

This could be the year that the Green Party takes over leadership of Illinois government.  The chances of winning for Rich Whitney, Green Party candidate for Governor, have never looked better.  Rich is best known for supporting progressive environmental policies, civil rights, fair employment practices and fiscal responsibility;  as well as being a happily married guy.

On the Democratic side, incumbent Pat Quinn has committed political suicide by proposing a 50% tax increase for everybody in the state.  Great idea, Pat.  That should go over well in November.  Combine Pat, who is divorced, with Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate Scott Lee Cohen, who is also divorced and who is notorious for abusing women and illegal drugs, frequently cheating on his wife, for constantly being delinquent on his child support payments, mortgage payments and water bills, and for extorting borrowers by charging them 10% PER MONTH interest, and you have a Democratic team that is an embarrassment, not only to the People of Illinois, but to the Democratic Party as well.  Look for the voters to divorce themselves from the Party of the Two Divorced Guys this November.

Then, there are the Republicans.  Senator Bill Brady, a radical conservative, currently leads the Republican race for Governor.  As of today, Brady has about four hundred more votes from last week's Primary Election than his closest rival, but there are still several thousand absentee ballots and provisional ballots left to count.  (A person casts a provisional ballot, in the polling place on Election Day, when the person claims to be a registered voter but there is no record, in the polling place, of that person's voter registration.  The provisional ballot is set aside and not counted on Election Day.  Later, the Election Authorities search their records to see if that person actually is registered to vote.  If so, the provisional ballot is then counted.)  The eventual Republican nominee will be teamed up with Lieutenant Governor candidate Jason Plummer, a 27-year-old kid who is closely associated with the right-wing extremist Heritage Foundation.  The Heritage Foundation is best known for encouraging  the government to advocate religion, for condemning green jobs as something that harms the economy, and for attacking the civil rights of law-abiding citizens who are gay.  Brady and Plummer are so extreme that 80% of Republicans voted against Brady and 66% of Republicans voted against Plummer in last week's Primary Election.  It can't bode well for the Republican Party for the November election when the vast majority of Republicans have repudiated their party's nominees.
