Lisa Madigan promises progress
on Pilgrim Baptist litigation

Part Four of Four.

OK ... who's more beautiful, Lisa or Dawn? You're right:  It's a tie.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan and her staff have promised me that progress should be made, soon, regarding my litigation to stop Rod Blagojevich's State grant of one million of your tax dollars to Pilgrim Baptist Church.

The grant was promised by Rod to Pilgrim Baptist after incompetent, uninsured, non-union roofers screwed up and burned the church to the ground in January, 2006.

The litigation has been on hold for about a year.  It should have been settled, long ago.

At the Gay Pride Parade, Lisa and her staff told me that they can't do anything regarding the Pilgrim Baptist litigation until Governor Quinn indicates how he wants the matter resolved.

At Pat Quinn's and Lisa's news conference on transparency in government on Monday, August 17th, Governor Quinn told me, as reported in Part Three of this series, that Pat thought that Lisa could make all of the decisions, so the ball was in Lisa's court.

After the August 17th news conference, I met with Lisa and asked her, "Where do we go from here?  After all, Pat's the client, so it's his decision, but he thinks that it's your decision."

Lisa was not pleased that I had brought up pending litigation at a news conference.  She's right, of course, but this thing hadn't moved for about a year, and there was no prospect of that changing, ever, but now we knew why:  Lisa was waiting for Pat to make the next move and Pat was waiting for Lisa to make the next move.  Only by bringing up the issue at the news conference were we able to establish what the problem was in making progress to resolving the litigation.

Lisa and her staff acknowledged to me that the problem had now clearly been identified.  They assured me that, now that the problem of the double message had been identified, they should be able to resolve the delay very soon.

I was assured that Lisa's team would work on the situation, right away, and get back to me with an answer in the very near future.

I'll keep you posted.

I look forward to your comments on this one, especially if you are a taxpayer and you don't think that the ex-Governor of Illinois should be forcing you to donate to a church that the ex-Governor has picked out for you.
