Freedom From Religion Foundation sues to stop religious engravings at Capitol Visitor Center

The Freedom from Religion Foundation ("FFRF"), based in Madison, Wisconsin, has filed a lawsuit to block the Architect of the Capitol from engraving "In god we trust" and the corrupted, anti-atheist, purported Pledge of Allegiance into the walls of the new Capitol Visitor Center.

Here's the FFRF Press Release regarding their lawsuit.

Their lawsuit eliminates the need for Michael Newdow and me to clean up that particular mess, which is fine by us, because we've got so many other state/church separation cases going that we atheists, the true patriots in this country, would barely have time to add yet another to challenge to Constitution-hating Christian legislators.

As you know, I will be filing, any day now, a lawsuit to block hundreds of unconstitutional donations by the Illinois General Assembly and Governor Pat Quinn to houses of worship, parochial schools and religious ministries located both in Illinois and even outside of Illinois.  Meanwhile, Mike Newdow is awaiting a decision on his latest lawsuits challenging "In god we trust" on our money and "Under god" in the Pledge Of Allegiance And Affirmation Of Religious Belief.

When I first got involved in atheist civil rights advocacy, in 1981, there wasn't much organized opposition to state/church separation other than from American Atheists.  I eventually became the National Spokesman of American Atheists, serving in that role from the mid-1980's to the mid-1990's.

The theory amongst politicians was that, if you stop American Atheists, you've stopped the movement.

Now, there are lots of atheist organizations out there, such as the Atheist Alliance International, the Secular Coalition for America and, of course, Rob Sherman Advocacy.  A web search will produce the names of many other similar groups.

So, don't worry.  I won't be around, forever, but when I do go away, there will be plenty of others to pick up the ball and carry it forward.
