RS Advocacy Succeeds Again:
Target Drops Sale of Stars and Stripes Throw

The other shoe has dropped.  Following in the footsteps of K-Mart, Target has discontinued sale of it "Stars and Stripes" Throw blanket in response to a request last week by Rob Sherman Advocacy.

K-Mart and Target had both been selling the same American flag throw blanket with good intentions, but they were mistaken in believing that they were doing something patriotic.  RS Advocacy activist Michele Sweet reported in the July 26th edition of LN&C that she had contacted both companies last week to inform them that the use of our flag either as bedding or as a throw on furniture or on the floor actually constitutes desecration of the flag as defined in the United States Flag Code.  Last Friday, K-Mart discontinued its sale of the product, Item # 865588.  Yesterday, Target discontinued its sale of the product, Item # 517567.

Our opposition to the American flag throw product should not be misconstrued as opposition to patriotism.  Rob Sherman Advocacy is an organization that is patriotic.  We support appropriate displays of our flag, such as hanging freely from a staff.  An even better way to demonstrate one's patriotism is to support the Constitution and abide by its provisions.

Here's what the Target page looked like before it was discontinued.  K-Mart acted so quickly on our request (which is good) that we never did get around to saving an image of their former catalog page, but we did save a copy of the product picture.

Our success in getting both of these matters resolved in a very short period of time demonstrates, yet again, the effectiveness of Rob Sherman Advocacy in identifying social controversies and getting them resolved quickly.  When you make your decision on where to send your dollars for the support of social activism, please give Rob Sherman Advocacy careful consideration.

For your convenience, we will begin accepting credit card contributions by next week via the leading internet credit card payment system, PayPal.
