RS Advocacy Succeeds Again:
Alton drops plan to give Boy Scouts tax money

Rob Sherman Advocacy has succeeded in persuading the City of Alton, Illinois, to reject a request by the Boy Scouts of America to use ten thousand of our federal tax dollars to operate a program that would be open only to religious heterosexuals.

As reported in the April 14, 2003, edition of Liberal News & Commentary, Alton was all set to give $10,000 of its federal Community Development Block Grant money to the Boy Scouts to run a program for disadvantaged and minority youth in the city.  On April 14, 2003, at a public hearing on the proposed budget, Rob Sherman Advocacy pointed out to city officials that the Boy Scouts limit participation in such programs to only those disadvantaged and minority kids who are religious heterosexuals.  Disadvantaged and minority atheist kids and disadvantaged and minority homosexual kids would be barred by the Boy Scouts, in violation of federal law, from this publicly funded program.  When Alton officials confirmed that the information from RS Advocacy was correct, they quickly pulled the plug on BSA's grant request.

The Sunday, May 4, 2003 edition of the Alton Telegraph headlined their newspaper with news of how Rob Sherman Advocacy had, once again, led the way for state/church separation and the civil rights of atheists.  If you support state/church separation and/or the civil rights of atheists, please send your financial support here.  Others just talk about it.  We're the ones that are actually doing something about the problem.
