Sherman Advocacy Victory in Niles

The Niles Journal the Niles Herald-Spectator ran stories this week describing how Rob Sherman Advocacy won the state-church separation battle in Niles, Illinois, without having to resort to court action.  Radio and TV also did stories, and the victory was the subject of radio talk shows, where callers were heard to say, "I agree with Rob Sherman."

The Journal and Topics Newspapers publishes fourteen suburban editions.  Their story about the Sherman Advocacy victory was featured as the top story of the week for all of the publications that the Journal and Topics Newspapers publishes in the Chicago metropolitan area.

There was one error in the text of their version of the story.  The story picked up a quote from former mayoral candidate Leonard Reinebach, who was our standby plaintiff if this matter had ended up in court.  Mr. Reinebach said, "Robert Sherman is right."  The quote, however, was inadvertently attributed to me.

The complete fourth paragraph of the story in the Journal said, "What they've got now is unconstitutional," insists Sherman.  "Robert Sherman is right."

They forget to put in a comma after the word, "right," and add, "insists Reinebach."  "Robert Sherman is right" is what Reinebach said about me, not what I said about myself.  Please keep that in mind when you read their story, which is entitled Settlement on Scene.

I liked the picture that they used so much that I got permission from the publisher of the Journal and Topics Newspapers to make their picture the theme picture for the RS Advocacy web site.  It summarizes how I win social activism battles, rather than just talk about them like some of the other guys do.  This picture had it all.  It depicts:

This week's Niles Herald-Spectator story is particularly amusing.  Do you recall the opening paragraph of last week's H-S story, entitled Threat is foolishness - Blase?  It said, "Niles Mayor Nicholas Blase says the village will not change a holiday display, despite the threat of a lawsuit by First Amendment activist and atheist Rob Sherman."  In the December 13th edition of Liberal News & Commentary, I suggested that the mayor was merely engaging in public posturing while behind-the-scenes negotiations were taking place.

In this week's H-S story, it's more like, "Oh, yeah, we were going to change the scene, anyway.  It was our idea, all along.  Rob Sherman had nothing to do with it."  Yeah, right, mayor.  That's OK, as long as you get it changed, you can take all the credit for yourself.  I promise not to tell anybody where the idea really came from.

The Niles Herald-Spectator story is entitled I don't want to be a grinch - Sherman.  That's a reference to how I agreed to allow them to leave the current display alone for the remainder of this year's holiday season in exchange for their promise to permanently modify the display beginning with next year's holiday season.

If you like the way I get results and get problems solved, rather than just talking about problems like some others do, send your state-church separation dollars here, please.  Just print and fill out this easy, convenient financial supporter form and mail it in.  Thanks, in advance, for your support.
