"Fighting injustice, one victory at a time."
For the past week, Rob Sherman Advocacy has attempted to resolve, administratively, the municipal prayer service controversy with Chicago. Despite my good "faith" efforts, city officials have continued to hide behind their voice mail and their receptionists in a futile effort to dodge dealing with the problem. Chicago thinks that, by hiding from me or, as they put it, "putting up a shield against Rob Sherman," they will be able to use government endorsement and promotion of religious faith as a 9/11 memorial. After a week of trying to be nice, it's time for me to get tough with them. Tomorrow, I take them to federal court.

Many Chicago residents expressed outrage to Rob Sherman Advocacy at what Mayor Daley plans to do. Several Chicago residents who are atheists offered to be a plaintiff, should the need arise to take this matter to court. Out of that group of patriotic atheists, I've selected two Chicago residents to be the plaintiffs.
The first plaintiff is one of the most famous names in the history of Chicago area social activism. He's been to court, before, on civil rights matters and has never lost a case. He's won every single time. His name will be revealed, here, on Saturday, after the filing, tomorrow, of our lawsuit.
The other plaintiff is a student at a Chicago public school. She would be affected by Mayor Daley's plan for schools to "suspend their normal activities at noon (on September 11th) so students can share in the observance." Her identity will also be revealed here on Saturday.
Mayor Daley has dared Chicago's atheist community to try and stop him from establishing a municipal religion next Wednesday. We're calling Hizzoner's bluff. We're going to federal court, tomorrow, with a likely scenario of an expedited hearing on Monday. As my good friend Mitch Kahle of Hawaiian Citizens for the Separation of State and Church told me last night by telephone from Honolulu, "Mayor Daley must think that God is hard of hearing and only hears prayers that are shouted in unison from government property. It's as if Mayor Daley graduated from the John Ashcroft School of Constitutional Law."
On September 11th of last year, when religious people disagreed with the policies of the government, they expressed their dissent by committing a series of terrorist acts that killed thousands of innocent people. At the same time this year, when atheists disagree with the policies of the government, we are going to express our dissent by going to court to have the matter resolved peacefully. If nothing else, I'm sure Mayor Daley will want to commend us on our patriotism for how we atheists handle disputes with the government.
