Utah Considers Using National Motto
As Proselytizing Weapon in Schools

Now that the Olympics are over, Utah state officials seem to think that it is safe to go back to being religious fanatics.  Today, the Utah Senate will consider passage of HB0079S1, which would require that the phrase, "In God we trust," be posted in every public school classroom.

The clear purpose of this mandatory speech law is to use the National Motto as a proselytizing weapon for cramming God down the throats of every child, whether the child, or the child's parents, like it or not.

One of the projects being pursued by Rob Sherman Advocacy is to get Congress to change the National Motto from the divisive, polarizing, religious "IGWT" to "United We Stand," a motto that we all can subscribe to and one which is secular.  As part of the effort to get the motto changed, I met during the past month with my Congressman, Mark Kirk (R-IL 10th), and the Chiefs of Staff of both of my United States Senators, Richard Durbin (D) and Peter Fitzgerald (R) to seek their support for changing the National Motto.

At the present time, none of these legislators feels that there is a need to change the National Motto.  However, by enacting a law that has the effect of using the National Motto as a weapon for proselytizing god-belief, the Utah legislature is helping me to build my case for why the motto needs to be changed.

The purpose that a national motto is supposed to have is to unite the country.  If  I can prove to Congress that the current national motto is simply a proselytizing weapon for religious fanatics, then Congress will be more inclined to act sooner, rather than later, to change our national motto to something better.

The Utah legislature better be careful, or they may end up being a major contributing factor in getting the national motto changed.  If that happens, then Utah residents would blame the members of their state legislature for ruining the national motto by over-doing it and they'll all be voted out of office!

Meanwhile, I'll be thanking the Utah legislature for helping me to kick that make-believe deity-parent God out of the national motto.
