"Fighting injustice, one victory at a time."
The Pioneer Press is a chain of forty-eight community newspapers that publishes weekly in many of Chicago's north, northwest and west suburbs. The same company that owns the Chicago Sun-Times purchased the Pioneer Press during the 1990's. Most editions publish on Thursday, although a few publish on Wednesday.
The Pioneer Press today published a story about the Old Glory door mats controversy. Here is a link to the internet version of the Pioneer Press story about the door mat controversy, entitled Store decision pulls rug from Sherman protest.
Stories that appear in the Pioneer Press are straight-forward and balanced, as contrasted with the Daily Herald, which is known for always slanting its stories heavily in favor of government and Big Business. For example, the Daily Herald story on Tuesday about the door mats merely said that the mats contained the three colors of red, white and blue. This is what's known as a deception by half-truth. While it is true that those three colors were represented in the mats, the Daily Herald attempts to mislead readers into thinking that the mats contained the three colors in a way that did not represent any design in particular. By failing to mention that the mats contained a specific design, and that the design represented Old Glory, the Daily Herald attempts to imply that the story, and my efforts regarding it, were no big deal.
The inclusion of those colors was not the issue. It was the design that those colors formed on the doormat that was the issue.

The issue was that the colors were used in such a way as to represent the American flag. By using deceptive reporting, the Daily Herald was trying to get readers to infer, as usual, that Big Business had done nothing wrong, but that I was over-reacting to a non-issue. Inclusion of those three colors on a door mat is a non-issue. Inclusion of those three colors on a door mat in a way that symbolizes our flag is a real issue that merits a response.
The reason that the Daily Herald regularly engages in this kind of deception is: Profits over truth. Big Business is a big advertiser in daily newspapers like the Herald. The Daily Herald has made a business decision that Big Business may not be as likely to place its ads in the Daily Herald if the Herald makes Big Business look bad by telling the truth about things that Big Business occasionally does wrong. Since maximizing profits take precedence over telling the truth in the Daily Herald, the Daily Herald is not a reliable nor impartial source of information on what Big Business is really up to.
Same goes for Daily Herald reporting on government agencies. The Daily Herald takes the side of government on almost every controversy, causing the newspaper to be known in "Herald City" as Government R Us.
Rob Sherman Advocacy, on the other hand, puts telling the truth ahead of making money. As a result, Rob Sherman Advocacy makes very little money.
