White Sox Welcome Atheists in Promotion

The Chicago White Sox are sneaking up on the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians.  They just might surprise the front-runners by passing them by on the way to the playoffs.  However, before the playoffs begin in October, there's the matter of Fellowship Night at Comiskey Park on August 14th.

Comiskey Park is a public stadium, developed, owned and operated by the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.  Since it is a public park, discrimination should not be an option.

Next month, on August 14th, the Sox are running a ticket promotion:  Fellowship Night.  In this promotion, if you are part of a church group of twenty or more, your group gets a big discount on the cost of tickets.  Naturally, this deal from my home town boys, who play in a publicly owned stadium, got my attention.  In behalf of my group, National Atheists, I contacted the person in charge of promotions at the White Sox to inquire as to whether or not the same deal was available to us.  The response was:  Absolutely!  Please come!  We'd love to have your group at Comiskey Park to cheer on the White Sox.

Do we need to bring a church bulletin?  NO!

Do we need to carry rosary beads, wear a crucifix or bring a copy of the bible?  NO!

Would we get the same discount on the price of tickets as the Christians?  Certainly!  Please put a group together and come.

That's good enough for me!  We not only would get the same discount, our group would be welcome at the park.

Some other organization, such as the one in New Jersey, might have issued a press release condemning the White Sox for their Fellowship promotion.  That wouldn't have accomplished anything.  They might have put together a group of two or three people to picket at Comiskey Park on Fellowship Night, only to get lost in the crowd of tens of thousands of Sox fans and be thoroughly overlooked and ignored.

National Atheists does things differently.  National Atheists is leading the way for atheist civil rights by engaging decision makers, rather than merely criticizing them in press releases like the other group does.  National Atheists gets policies enacted or changed to provide for the equal treatment of atheists, rather than participating, like the other group does, in whiny, feel-good picketing actions that accomplish nothing and only go to show how weak and incapable their leadership is in effective change.

Go, you White Sox.  Beat the Texas Rangers on August 14th on Fellowship Night at Comiskey Park.

You've heard of "Queen for a Day," the TV show from the Fifties and Sixties?  Join National Atheists and me at Comiskey Park on August 14th and be "Atheist for a Night."  To participate, contact me through one of the methods listed below.
