Reggie Finley, of Atlanta, has long been a champion web-caster to the atheist and Black atheist community. He has provided a wealth of information about atheist issues and for years has broadcast programs of interest to atheists over the internet from his web site, www.infidelguy.com. What's more, everybody likes Reggie.
During the past month, Reggie has been inviting atheists from across the nation and around the world to create audio shows and broadcast them from Reggie's broadcasting web site, www.atheistnetwork.com. I've been a professional radio broadcaster since the 1980's, but converting that content into web files requires knowledge of complex procedures and web site authoring techniques that were way over my head.
After trying for weeks to decipher by myself the protocol for getting my shows on the 'net, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to figure it out for myself. I contacted Reggie, who walked me through the process from the first step to the last. He then de-bugged some technical glitches to optimize the product.
Here's how you will be able to hear my radio show:
First, you need a RealAudio player, called the RealPlayer. Most of you have that by now, but if you don't, go to www.real.com and download either the free RealPlayer 8 Basic or buy the RealPlayer 8 Plus.
I broadcast my radio show from 5 to 6 PM Central Time on Thursdays. After the show is over, I convert the content into a RealAudio file on my computer. Then, I download that file from my computer to my web site. You can then play back the radio show simply by clicking on link near the top of the Radio Show home page. Clicking on the link will launch your RealPlayer and automatically start the playback of my show.
Here's the best part: If you have high-speed access to the internet, the playback starts after only about ten seconds from the time that you click on the link. You don't have to wait until the whole file is downloaded over the internet from my internet service provider to your computer. The download takes place while the show is playing back. It probably takes longer for the show to start if you are still using dial-up, but the show will still start playing right away while the rest of the show gets downloaded to you.
