Liberal News and Commentary speculates that Chandry Levy was pregnant with conservative Congressman Gary Condit's child, and that Condit had Chandra murdered for the purpose of covering up the pregnancy.
Last week, Chandra's aunt, Linda Zamsky, revealed the details of a message that Chandra left on Linda's telephone answering machine. Those details have been widely reported: "Hi, Linda. This is Chandra. My internship is over. I'm planning on packing my bags in the next week or ten days. Heading home for a while. Don't know what I'm going to do this summer, and I really have some big news or something important to tell. Call me."
What could that "big news" have been? The speculation, here, is that Chandra was pregnant with Condit's kid, and that Condit sought to cover up the pregnancy by getting rid of Chandra.
It's ironic that on Congressman Condit's home page, there is an advertisement for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Condit is old enough to be Chandra's father. Does that qualify Chandra as somebody that NCMEC can look for? If Chandra was pregnant with Condit's kid, does a pre-natal child qualify as somebody that NCMEC can look for?
According to widely reported details of Condit's response to the situation, Condit contends that the focus, now, should be on finding Chandra, wherever she is. That sounds a lot like a promise by Condit's fellow Californian, OJ Simpson, who has vowed to spend the rest of his life looking for the "real" killer of his wife, Nicole.
Try looking in the mirror.
We'll never find the proof that Chandra was pregnant because the bodies surely don't exist any more. That's two bodies: the body of Chandra and the body of the fetus. At the congressional level, these things are done carefully, in a manner that doesn't leave a trace. I would expect that someone also went through Chandra's apartment to make sure that the early pregnancy test paraphernalia was removed and disposed of. If Condit knows that scenario to be true, then he can urge, all he wants, that Chandra be found, because Condit already knows that there's nothing left to find.
I think he'll get away with it.
