We Need Seat Belts Update

In the three weeks since the last LN&C, more children have been killed, and others critically injured, on a school bus without seat belts.  More adults have been critically injured on an inter-city bus without seat belts.

I made a presentation to my local elementary school board about how we need seat belts on school busses.  The Board member who responded in behalf of the District asserted that I destroyed my credibility and had done a terrible disservice to the parents of the district by suggesting that children who don't wear seat belts are less safe than children who do wear seat belts.

I also made a presentation to my local high school board about how we need seat belts on school busses.  They had a much more open mind about the subject.  The superintendent has asked for follow-up information, which I am preparing.

The Philadelphia Inquirer published, on the front page of this week's Sunday, Monday and Tuesday editions, a three-part series of stories about how we need seat belts on, of all things, paddy wagons.  Meanwhile, the government, in most cases, pretends that there is no problem, while the deaths and injuries pile up.

Nancy Phillips, the reporter who wrote that three-part story in the Philadelphia Inquirer, will be the guest on tomorrow's radio show to talk about the millions of dollars that the City of Brotherly Love has spent to pay damages to just some of those who were paralyzed or suffered other severe injuries as the result of being catapulted about the interior of the Philly paddy wagons.

You'll be amazed by the details of some of those stories that I referred to in the first paragraph, above.  I'll have the first one of those in the next LN&C.
