No candidate filed to be on the ballot, but a pro-censorship Christian attorney also filed to be a write-in candidate. In my home area, where my agenda was known and where people know from personal contact with me what a good person I am, I won by a 2-to-1 margin. Elsewhere, where my agenda was known but all anybody knows about me personally is that I am an Atheist, and that my opponent is a Christian, I lost by a wide margin.
This election demonstrates that it is essentially impossible for an atheist with a good agenda to defeat a god-believer with a bad agenda. If you compare my detailed and specific ten-point agenda to my opponent's single-point agenda of government censorship of the information you can obtain from the internet while using computers at the public library, you will easily see that my agenda was better. However, it doesn't seem to matter how good of an agenda you have or how bad an agenda your opponent has when the government publicly endorses the theological opinion of your opponent but publicly condemns your theological opinion.
The government is constitutionally required to remain neutral about matters of faith. However, the government defames the character of America's model citizens, the atheists, by putting "In God We Trust" on every dollar bill and every coin used by voters. In addition, the government actively promotes anti-atheist bigotry by including the phrase, "One nation under God," in the Pledge of Allegiance.
It is essentially impossible for anybody to get elected to public office when the government constantly defames your character by persistently attacking your theological perspective. It is particularly ironic that the country which is one of the worst offenders is a country where the government is constitutionally required to remain neutral about matters of faith.
It is clear that when people voted for against me, they were voting for an opponent whom they knew nothing about except that she was not an atheist. I'm sure that if you showed a picture of my opponent, along with pictures of four other people, to those who voted for my opponent, virtually nobody would be able to tell you which picture was that of my opponent, or anything else about her, except that she is a god-believer.
There were several serious problems with new voting procedures in Cook County, Illinois. Those problems will be discussed in an upcoming next edition of Liberal News and Commentary. Those problems, however, did not affect the outcome of my race.
