Welcome to the first day of the Twenty-first Century.
When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's of the last century, I used to think to myself, "How old will I be in the year 2000? Forty-seven? Wow, that's really old, but that's so far off into the future, it's truly a lifetime away."

Now, 2000 not only came, but it went in what seemed to be a week's time. It leaves me thinking that my remaining thirty years or so, or perhaps thirty days if the political assassins have their way, will also go by in the blink of an eye.
It's no wonder that so many people try to use the drug of religious delusion to distract themselves from the frightening reality that life is a very, very short speck on the timeline of eternity. The terminal reality is there, however, so make the most of every day.
One of the great things about being an atheist is that we realize, early in life, just how limited our lifetimes are. We make the most of our limited time and use our time productively, rather than wasting our time trying to change reality through emotional wishful thinking. We don't waste our time futilely trying to change reality by praying that we can live forever. We know that we can't change reality, even by reciting a few magic phrases, such as, "I believe in ..."
Time is short. Use it well and enjoy it while it lasts. As with all of my commentaries, your feedback is appreciated.
